Backgammon Description

Backgammon game The Game Client and Game Server are both Java applications. The Game Server has no GUI and runs as a daemon (or service) on a Linux server listening to its own port. The Linux server also runs an Apache web server. I use TCP ServerSocket and Socket objects to make connections between computers. Preferences and user data are stored in a mySQL database. I use a mySQL JDBC implementation to connect to the database from the Game Server.When you invite a player to play a game you are actually hosting the game. This means that your computer becomes a server by using a ServerSocket. The other player connects to your computer with a Socket object. You will need to configure your computer to listen to a port. You can set the ports from 49152 to 65535. Ports 52144 and 52154 are the default primary and secondary ports. If you are invited to a game then it is not necessary for any port to be open because you are not hosting the game.To install:Download gameclient.jarCommand line: java -jar gameclient.jarorDouble-click gameclient.jar icon if your OS is configured to handle jar files.
