Firstly, you can hide the real path of your download folder on your web server. This way you can prevent direct access to the download folder.And secondly you can make sure that your visitors get the "Save as" dialogue. That prevents that file types like PDF, HTML, TXT or Microsoft Office documents are opened instantly.You can use the GentleSource File Download to provide any file type you can think of. The files in the folder "downloads" are examples for the common file types.If you activate the logging feature, every download will be logged. The download information will be continuously written in a log file. You will get information about IP address, host name, file name, date, time, referring site and user agent.There is also a counting feature which counts all downloads of a file.
