Unlike most monitors which execute a subprocess, NvThermometer contains a minimal python interface to the X Protocol which allows it to query the NV-CONTROL X extension directly. In short, no more disk thrash, so you can track all GPU's on a SLI box, for example, without bogging the machine down. It just opens an extra connection to X, and a limited one at that. I don't even run a message loop so the server does nothing but answer 2 requests once a second. beats the hell outa nvidia-settings for this task. 1 percent CPU, according to top.As per my typical modus operandi, this screenlet is entirely vector and allows total color control.
