Broadband, all digital, software television for the Mac Skobos - the first major broadband, all digital, software television for the Mac has arrived. The time of TV entertainment being delivered to your computer is here and it's going to allow you to travel the world, one channel at a time.This is NOT Video-On-Demand where you receive broadcasts that you must pre-select in order to view. This is real TV in every sense of the word. The differences between Skobos and the television you have in your home is that Skobos is software based and the only hardware you need is your computer and a high-speed Internet connection.Skobos is a software television that allows the user to view preset and updateable channels via a high-speed Internet connection on a Mac computer. The software has been in development for the past few years (beginning with the Widget Television VF1 through VF3) and is now a stand-a-lone package. The television programming design of Skobos was written entirely in Applescript using Apple's Xcode environment, Applescript Studio.The program's viewing capabilities relies on the user's installation of the top three (free) video players, available over the Internet. The channels are encoded using one of several technologies and then are broadcast over the Internet using specific video codecs.The availability of these channels to the end-user depends on the user having the three players, QuickTime, RealPlayer, and Windows Media Player, installed on the computer that Skobos is installed on.Here are some key features of "Skobos":· Skobos is Universal and will work on both PPC and Intel platforms.· The program works wirelessly or directly connected (wired Ethernet) to the Internet via your ISP.· The program's 3-button Main window resides at a fixed location top-center of your desktop, just under the Finder toolbar, until closed.· Skobos' window is made semi-transparent to match your desktop screen image.· Viewing Full Screen can be done as a desktop background with toolbars showing, allowing you to continue your work, or as a 'Full Screen' without toolbars.· Updated program and/or channel releases are scheduled bi-weekly for each version, but may be performed earlier. Please check for updates through the Skobos menu at the top-left of your screen when running Skobos.· The user can do a manual update at anytime to catch up on any that may have been missed by clicking on the 'Skobos' program when running, and selecting the 'Skobos' program name in the upper left corner of your desktop screen. Select 'Check for Updates'. Each update is backward compatible.· Family oriented programming. We remove any unsuitable station without hesitation when discovered.· The Shouter program is enabled for continual Instant Messaging with other registered users and is programmed using AJAX. The usage of corrosive language, flaming, or other verbal attacks are not acceptable.· Channel Voting is enabled allowing the user to vote for his or hers, favorite channels. The channels with the least amount of votes will be traded for another channel of similar status (Variety, Music, News, etc.) where possible, at the end of each two-week period. The updates will reflect the changes made in channel programming.· Volume adjustment can be performed while the program is running by using the sliding control on the viewer. When the program is started, it recognizes the settings of the System Volume and is setup accordingly to match.· Using the Mute button will mute all audio from the system.· Using the Hide button will hide the viewer while leaving the audio and channel selected playing.· The Full, Site, Cast Vote, and +Current/-Current buttons are disabled until a channel is selected.· Pressing the +Current button when the Favorites (fav) window is open will add the current channel being viewed to the favorites list.· Pressing the -Current button when the Favorites (fav) window is open will remove the current channel from the favorites list.Requirements:· PPC or Intel CPU with at least an 867mhz CPU, and at least 1gb of Ram. The more ram, the better.Video Players should be installed before the 'Skobos' program is installed:· Apple QuickTime 7.x and above. Pre-installed with OS.· RealPlayer for Mac 10.x and above · If installing 'Skobos' on a PPC based system, use Windows Media Player Mac 9 If installing 'Skobos' on an Intel based system, use Flip4Mac Limitations: · Skobos currently (as of 5/23/08) has 175 channels. The DEMO has 12 (2 for each category). · The DEMO is not crippled in any way and is fully operational.
