BossBackup2 Description

The software will create a bootable backup to a different partition on the same drive or a separate hard drive doing it all from the Windows environment. By having a second, REFRESHABLE, operating system/hard drive you will have the ability to test updates, new programs etc. by booting to the secondary hard drive or partition, do whatever you want to do having the knowledge that even if you screw up you have not compromised the integrity of your primary operating system/hard drive. And, the best part is that when you are finished messing around or messing up you can return to your primary hard drive/operating system and it is as you left it. Then, simply run BossBackup2 again and restore and synchronize the secondary drive or partition back to the exact state of your primary operating system/hard drive. No uninstalls to worry about, and most important, NO MISTAKES. It is also an efficient way to backup your entire hard drive or just those important designated directories, non compressed. It is compatible with FAT 32 and NTFS file systems. We believe it to be the fastest backup program for the PC on the market today! The main reason for its speed is that after the initial backup, one of BossBackup2's options is to only backs up changed files. Keep in mind that because you are working to and from hard media, simple one or two file retrievals may be accomplished through Windows Explorer. BossBackup2 is totally customizable. You may choose the directories to be backed up, or create backup sets that can be scheduled. BossBackup2 does all the things other backup systems do but what makes BossBackup2 different is it's restore capabilities. It is the only product on the market today that will allow you to restore your system to the exact settings and configurations of your last backup and it does it all in Windows You no longer will have the fear of ever loosing your data or Windows configurations or settings! Main features: Logs: Back to Index BossBackup2 backup logs its activities and keeps a record of what you are doing for reference. There are a total of 6 text files that may be accessed from “Logs” on the menu bar. They are as follows: 1. Error Log : _bosserror.txt Whenever a file cannot be copied or deleted you will find its name and path in this log. This file is overwritten each time a backup operation is executed. If you want to retain the information, open the log from the logs menu and do a save-as to a new file name. Notepad is used to display the logs. 2. Boss log: _bosslog.txt This file is not overwritten as it keeps a log of the operations performed. It logs the date, time, source, and target as well as type of operation performed. You may want to delete this file from time to time (it can grow large), it will be recreated. 3. Copy log: bosscopylog.txt This log keeps a record of every file that is copied and gives both the source and target paths. This log gets overwritten with each new operation. . If you want to retain the information, open the log from the logs menu and do a save-as to a new file name. Notepad is used to display the logs. 4. Delete log: _bossdeletelog.txt This file keeps track of all the files that are on the source that are not on the target that get deleted. . If you want to retain the information, open the log from the logs menu and do a save-as to a new file name. Notepad is used to display the logs. 5. Boot log: _bossbootlog.txt This file will list the copied files of the “Boss Copy List” See below (After the reboot). 6. Boss Copy List: _bosscopy.txt Occasionally there are files that are locked and cannot be copied from windows. BossBackup makes a list of these files and keeps this list here. When Boss is finished it will tell you how many of these files there are and asks you if you want to copy them when you reboot. Compare: Back to Index BossBackup2 gives you the opportunity to do a comparison of the source and target before you execute a backup. This feature allows you to double check the operation you are about to perform. Save Registry: Back to Index This feature allows you to back up your registry to a folder of your choice. The restore registry will be added in later versions. Back-up Sets Back to Index Back-up Sets allow you to save and retrieve a routine so you do not have to enter it manually in the Source and Target drive text box.. The procedure is outlined below. You may create as many "Back-up Set" as you need and each one may have one or as many folder as you want to back up. The procedures for single and multiple "Back-up Sets" are described below. Backup sets may also be manually edited. The .bbu file is a text file and may be edited with notepad or any other text editor. In addition to running the "Back-up Set" from within the BossBackup2 program you may create a shortcut to the .bbu file on your desktop and run the "Back-up Set" with a single (or double) click. All .bbu files reside in the c:Genesisone directory. If you do not know how to create a shortcut refer to "Help" on your "Start" button and search for "Put a shortcut on your desktop". To create a single drive or folder "Back-up Set" select the Source and Target and then create a name for the set. In the example below we start by selecting "C:My Documents" and "D:My Document". We then click "Save this Set".
