As its name implies, Fast Video Joiner allows you to merge video clips of multiple formats (AVI, MPG, MPEG, MPE, WMV, ASF and DAT). But it can also convert them to other file types or video formats, like AVI, MPEG, VCD, SVCD and DVD. The program comes with a plain and simple interface. Items can be added to the file list by using only the file browser because the "drag and drop" functionality is not included. The file queue provides specific details about each entry, such as the source path, size and initial extension. If you prefer the default settings, then you can directly initialize the conversion operation by specifying the output profile, directory and file name. Experienced users can fiddle with the audio and video preferences when it comes to the codec, frame rate and size. Unfortunately, it is not possible to create output profiles or to restore settings to their default values. In addition, you can preview videos in a small, built-in media player, as well as remove an item from the list or clear the entire queue. During the conversion procedure, you can check out a progress bar, along with total number of frames and joining frames, buffer and remaining time. The video processing program runs on a moderate amount of CPU and system memory, in order to finish a task quickly. Its response time is very good and Fast Video Joiner includes a help file. We haven't come across any error dialogs during our tests and the app did not freeze, crash or pop up errors. On the downside, the output videos have a poor image and sound quality. On top of that, you cannot set Fast Video Joiner to minimize to the system tray or to exit once the task is completed. The interface needs some improvements as well, but we must keep in mind the fact that Fast Video Joiner has not received any recent updates.
