Intelliscore Standard Description

Do you want to use your analog instrument as a MIDI controller but don't want to pay for an expensive MIDI pickup? Have you ever been struck in a great moment of inspiration and recorded a great new idea for a song or a hot new lick, but now can't remember what notes you played? Are you a music teacher who needs an easier way to write down a practice sequence for your student? Or, are you a music copyist who is looking for a simpler alternative to playing an audio recording of a song over and over to pick out the notes and write them down? Electronic equipment and computer software have been available for many years to record music in the form of a MIDI file so it could later be automatically converted into notation, played back using the sounds in your sound card or MIDI-enabled musical instruments, edited in a sequencer, or used on Web pages as a space-saving alternative to audio files. The catch is that the music has to be entered by hand or "played in" on a MIDI-enabled instrument, so you have to know how to play the song in order to create the MIDI file. A few products have been recently developed that will allow you to sing or play a non-MIDI instrument, determine the notes you played, and write them to a MIDI file or control another instrument. The catch here, of course, is that these products can only recognize songs played monophonically -- one note at a time. That's fine if you sing solo or play an instrument one note at a time. However, most prerecorded WAVE and MP3 music is polyphonic. Attempts have been made over the last 25 years to create an automatic music recognition system that recognizes polyphonic audio files, that is, music containing more than one note at a time, for example: Chords Music played by a group of people such as a band or orchestra One person playing an instrument that produces more than one note at a time, such as a guitar or piano Unfortunately, this dream has proved to be elusive. If you wanted polyphonic WAVE, MP3, or CD files to be converted to MIDI, you simply had no alternative but to succumb to the often tedious and time-consuming task of picking out the notes yourself, time that could be better spent on more creative endeavors. Intelliscore Main Features: Live performance mode. Control a MIDI-enabled instrument or your computer¡¯s sound card in real-time while you play an acoustic instrument. In conjunction with the included Hubi¡¯s MIDI Loopback Device, you can record MIDI directly into a sequencer while you play your acoustic instrument. No need to use expensive hardware MIDI pickups! Use one of intelliScore¡¯s predefined instrument templates, or easily create your own. IntelliScore is the world¡¯s only general purpose, real-time polyphonic music recognition system. Multiple track capabilities. Patch maps simplify the task of separating detected notes and assigning them to different MIDI instruments when your audio contains multiple instruments. Notes are assigned to one or several MIDI channels (for layering effects) based on their pitch and stereo track, and each channel can be associated with its own instrument. You can use any of the 25 pre-supplied patch maps that represent common instrumental ensembles, or create and save your own. Stereo processing. In addition to its ability to process each stereo track separately, intelliScore can help isolate or remove instruments from stereophonic audio recordings at the position in the stereo image that you specify. For example, intelliScore can help remove vocals and process only the other instruments, or alternatively, process the vocal part only. Project Wizard. IntelliScore steps you through the process of preparing intelliScore to generate MIDI files and is designed to help you achieve the most accurate recognition results in the shortest amount of time. Timing synchronization. IntelliScore ensures that your generated MIDI file lines up with the beats and measures if you convert it to notation. You may manually tap in the beats or allow intelliScore to automatically determine tempo, notes per beat (timing resolution), meter, beats per chord, and measure synchronization. Easy recording. You can record your music directly into intelliScore so there is no need to create a WAVE file first. The real-time record level meter helps you record your audio at the optimum level the first time. Eliminates guesswork relating to setting proper recording levels. Many audio formats supported. IntelliScore supports MP3, WAVE, and live audio at 8/16/24/32-bit resolution, 11025/22050/44100 Hz sample rates, and monaural or stereophonic. It also transfers audio from CDs. What's New: Direct CD transfer. Easily transfer music from an audio CD directly into intelliScore without any loss in audio quality and without setting recording levels. Synchronous playback. Following recognition, intelliScore's SyncPlay feature can play your original WAVE or MP3 file and the generated MIDI file at the same time. Easily compare the files to evaluate the results of your project settings. More accurate. Over 90% of the recognition algorithms in our ground-breaking intelliScore software have either been enhanced or totally reengineered, resulting in entirely new levels of accuracy in polyphonic note, chord name, and key recognition versus previous versions as well as near perfect accuracy during the monophonic portions of your WAVE or MP3 file. IntelliScore now produces better results from WAVE and MP3 files that are fast and/or recorded at less than optimum volume levels and more closely preserves your music’s natural rhythmic quality. IntelliScore even compensates for out of tune instruments. Faster. IntelliScore is now about 25 times faster than previous versions. Depending on the speed of your computer, intelliScore can convert a full minute of audio in less than five seconds using the default recognition settings. Easy timing feature. IntelliScore can automatically determine the best timing settings for your music when you do not intend on converting the MIDI file to notation. This eliminates the need to tap in the tempo and manually set the timing resolution. Enhanced chord name and key recognition. IntelliScore identifies 144 different chords implied by the notes in your audio file as well as the overall key. Chord name and key recognition is now more accurate than ever. Greater realism. IntelliScore writes continuous changes in tempo to the generated MIDI file, thus capturing effects such as rubato, ritardando, accelerando, and fermatas. If your music is monophonic, intelliScore accurately tracks changes in volume and pitch while notes are being held, faithfully recreating effects such as pitch bend, vibrato, tremolo, and portamento, so MIDI performances are now more expressive. Notation and MIDI editing. Edit the generated MIDI files and convert them to notation using the included award-winning Anvil Studio software. Uses for intelliScore: Prerecorded music. Helps you figure out the notes, chords, and key present in prerecorded WAVE or MP3 files and CDs, especially when you don't know (or don't remember) how to play it. In conjunction with sequencer or notation software such as the included Anvil Studio, you can view and edit notation from the generated MIDI files. Analog instruments. Use your analog musical instrument as a realtime MIDI controller or record directly into sequencers. Effects such as pitch bend, vibrato, tremolo, and portamento are faithfully recreated when the audio is monophonic. Save the expense of MIDI pickups! Do the impossible. Once your WAVE, MP3, or CD files are converted into MIDI, you can do things that are impossible with audio files, such as changing individual notes and swapping instruments. Ringtones. You can use MIDI files generated by intelliScore to create your own custom ringtones for your cell phone. Remove vocals. Helps remove vocals from stereophonic WAVE, MP3, or CD files for karaoke singing. Chord names and key. IntelliScore recognizes 144 different chord names based on the notes in your WAVE, MP3, or CD files, as well as the overall key, and writes this information to generated MIDI files. Save space. Share your ideas with others via the Internet. MIDI files improve download time and save space compared to WAVE and MP3 files. System Requirements: Pentium II-class processor or higher. (Works on a Macintosh in conjunction with Windows emulation software such as VirtualPC.) Windows XP/Me/98/95/2000/NT4 with 64M of memory. The included Hubi¡¯s MIDI Loopback Device requires Windows Me/98/95. (For Windows XP/2000/NT, use MIDI Yoke instead of Hubi.) 7M hard disk space plus additional space to store files you create (the included Anvil Studio requires additional 4M space) Standard Windows-compatible sound card or interface that supports recording of 16-bit WAVE files at 44100 Hz and playing of MIDI Format 0 files following the General MIDI standard Speakers or earphone Mouse or compatible pointing device
