PStill Description

PStill is a simple tool that facilitates file conversions from images with the PS, EPS, JPG and TIF formats to PDF. It is also capable of reprocessing PDF documents, while giving you access to some advanced settings to modify. The installer includes an additional component addressed to power users, namely a command-line module. Its GUI is represented by a small frame with an intuitive layout, where you can load as many images as you want to convert at once, using either the file browser or drag-and-drop support. Without making any further adjustments, you can simply establish the output directory and file name, in order to create the new PDF file. Otherwise, it is possible to configure settings when it comes to compression (e.g. default image DPI preset, bitlevel images), output text (e.g. include fonts as subset, always convert text to graphics), interpreter (e.g. convert PDF output to RGB color), PDF special properties (e.g. define a page numbering scheme) and N-Up output options. In addition, you can establish the accuracy level, page size and format, numeric accuracy, and minimal line width, as well as assign a default PDF viewer and manage fonts. PStill is pretty light on the system resources, using a minimal amount of CPU and RAM. It has a good response time and carries out conversion tasks swiftly. However, the GUI is not particularly intuitive, the tool popped up multiple errors in our tests (unable to recognize specific files), and the output PDFs do not have a very good image quality. But we must also take into account that PStill has not been updated for a pretty long time, so it does not work properly on newer OS platforms.
