djDecks Description
djDecks is a music mixing application suitable mostly for amateur DJs. As most applications of the type, it comes with a lot of features and functions. On the other hand, compared to other similar programs, I’d say it’s a rather light application. Anyway, it supports up to 4 full-featured decks, wave forms, automatic BMP detection, setting cue points and basic looping functions, and all the other features one would expect from such an application. When it comes strictly to mixing possibilities, I’m a bit disappointed by this tool, as except for its versatile pitch changing feature and the handy, highly-configurable pre-listening functions, all the other mixing features, including the rather minimalistic sampler, are somehow unimpressive and look a bit average in comparison with the ones provided by other programs that have the same main functionality. It can play any kind of audio file formats; not only the popular MP3 but also less common ones such as AIFF, FLAC or APE. A nice feature is in my opinion the fact that it supports playing and mixing videos and karaoke files (compressed ones too), being a great tool for small parties where karaoke can be a great method to entertain the audience. In the end, despite its numerous features, I find it hard to think of djDecks as a viable music mixer as it looks to me more like an advanced multi-deck audio player with some common, basic mixing capabilities. Probably 5 years ago I would have liked it more, but nowadays, when every wannabe DJ can access and easily operate sophisticated tools like Ableton Live, programs like djDecks look a bit obsolete. Anyway, for entertaining purposes like small parties where some basic music mixing and some karaoke are more than enough to keep people happy, this tool will do. Margie Smeer Editor rating:
