Extract Frame Description

Extract Frame is a lightweight Windows application designed to fulfil a single goal: to help you extract frames from a video file. Since this is a portable program, it is important to mention that it doesn’t leave any traces in the Windows Registry. You can copy it on any USB flash drive or other devices, and take it with you whenever you to need to extract frames on the breeze, without having to go through installation steps. It sports a clean and simplistic layout that allows you to carry out most operations with just a few clicks. The tool gives you the possibility to upload files into the working environment using only “drag and drop” operations. You can extract a single frame from the selected clip by specifying the time in a dedicated panel. At the end of the task, the tool lets you preview the image in the main window. By default, the frames are exported to JPG file format and saved in the same location where the clips are stored. You are not allowed to specify the filename and pick a target location. As a major drawback, the utility doesn’t offer support for a video player, so you cannot easily check the exact time for the desired frame. This makes the entire process a bit more complicated, as you need to manually open the clip with your player and view the frame that you want to capture. During our testing we have noticed that Extract Frame accomplishes a task pretty quickly. It doesn’t eat up a lot of CPU and memory, so the overall performance of the computer is not hampered. To sum things up, Extract Frame offers a simple software solution for helping you extract frames and export them to JPG file format. It cannot compete with other powerful tools on the market, as it lacks support for advanced functions. Reviewed by Ana Marculescu, last updated on January 20th, 2014
