SSbump Generator Description

SSbump Generator is a lightweight and portable piece of software designed to help you generate SSBumps (Self Shadowed Bump Maps), as the name implies. It features a CUDA GPU rendering extension.Portability advantagesSince there is no setup pack involved, you can save the program files to a custom location on the disk and just click the executable to launch SSbump Generator. It is also possible to store it on a pen drive or other mass storage device, in order to run it on any computer with minimum effort. An important aspect worth taking into consideration is that, unlike most installers, this tool does not modify Windows registry settings or create extra files on the disk, thus leaving no traces behind after its removal. Straightforward interface with extensive file type supportThe GUI is user-friendly, based on a normal frame with a simple layout, where you can import images into the project from files with the PSD, BMP, DirectDraw Surface, JPEG, OpenEXR, PNG, PNM, Silicon Graphics, TGA, TIFF, Valve Texture, X Pixel Map or ZSoft PCX format. Customize advanced mapping parametersFor each added picture it is possible to modify settings pertaining to the mapping mode (normal map only, SSbump, ambient occlusion), height, alpha preservation, SSbump lighting, Gaussian blur, depth enhancement, bilateral filter, edge detection, intensity, blend mode, and layer mode. Presets can be created with customized properties. Preview results, make adjustments, and save the new photoSSBumps can be generated for all images or just the current one. You can preview the resulted [pic in RGB mode or in each channel (red, green blue), alter the lighting, as well as tweak the SSbump and ambient occlusion, contrast, brightness and smoothness levels, along with the minimum and maximum number of colors. If you are satisfied with the results, you can save the new image with one click. Worth mentioning is that SSBumps does not overwrite the original image, but creates a new one in the same location instead. The image list can be saved to file and imported later to resume the project. Evaluation and conclusionThere were no kind of stability problems throughout our tests, thanks to the fact that SSBumps did not hang, crash or pop up error messages. It had minimal impact on computer performance and generated SSBumps rapidly. Thanks to its advanced, yet intuitive settings, the app should meet the requirements of most users.
